OPTICON Frequently asked questions

OPTICON Frequently asked questions

Can we have a full list of Database types/file types we can upload/download?
Data Types – Text, Number (1,2,3), Currency (2.00 , 3.95), DateTime (Text, no computations)

File types - From AppBuilder to Excel and Opticon Syncing (external .exe available upon request) to CSV and Excel.
You say you can work offline. If you want to work online but don’t want to update App Builder to latest version can you do this?
The update allows functionality previously not available or errors to be corrected. Not updating could mean not being able to complete the app currently being designed.
Can you amend the app so the barcode box can also be typed into when onscreen and not just scanned?
Either the Scan Barcode control or the Input control would address this.
Can you input all fields including column headings when importing into a database?
Creating the column headers in the App Builder and then exporting to Excel allows the App Builder to ensure each column
Can you run App Builder on a MAC that has Windows running in parallel as a virtual machine?
We have not certified that the App Builder will run on a virtual Windows machine on a Mac.
When uploading Image to device will it always expand to full screen? Can it be too big to upload to screen?
The image is scaled to fit the scanner screen. Viewable on View from Activity Designer or Run from the App Builder form
Is there a size limit to the database? i.e uploading/downloading 5000 items how long would this take? Minutes/hours?
The size of the file will not affect the speed. The checks put in place to ensure the scanner transfer is complete is what takes up the time. If a database had 3 fields, (i.e. 'SCAN_BARCODE' :TEXTFIELD: LENGTH 13 , 'NAME' :TEXTFIELD: LENGTH 20, and 'QUANTITY' :TEXTFIELD: LENGTH 4), there could be approximately over 1m records held without affecting the storage space.
If working offline, how does the App builder know that your device has a registered license?
The App Builder will only check for a license when deploying the app to the scanner, which is the only time a connection must be available.
Working in reverse. If you have provided a device with app to a customer, can they then download the app builder and download the application written for them to their App builder?
There is no way to extract an app already on a scanner with the App Builder through reverse generation.
Is it possible to do multiple deployments across multiple devices?
The deployment process is by individual scanner with validation per individual scanner. There is not a process in place to validate licencing on multiple scanners simultaneously.
